CEUs

Certifications from AAPC AND AHIMA have to be maintained through dues and CEUs. Both organizations require CEUs to be submitted every two years.  These can be costly. Or they can be  free!

Some employers offer free CEU resources, it is worth asking if yours does. If  this is not an option, fear not there are other sources.  Your organization may offer some, their local chapters generally do (and you CAN attend another chapter's meetings), there are government websites with free CEUs.

There are many, many coding groups on social media. These often allow users to share information on free CEU opportunities. The fastest way to locate them is to go to your social media sites and do a search. It's amazing what is available.

Both AHIMA and AAPC have a page explaining  CEU acceptance policies. It is very important to review these before submitting any CEUs. Not all may be accepted.

AAPC: This page also lists a number of free (and otherwise) sources:  https://www.aapc.com/medical-coding-education/help/#ta

AHIMA: There have been updates to their CEU policy, so it is worth re-reading if you are a member. Notably 40% of CEUs must come from them or others they have listed. This is likely to effect the number of free CEUs that can be applied. They do currently give 4 or 8 free CEU options per year with membership. I recommend going over their recertification information carefully.
